The regular flight between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan has celebrated its first birthday. The flight costs have been cut three times since it was launched 12 months ago, boosting tourism across the Strait.

An agreement said the number of flights across the Strait would be more than doubled to 270 per week. More regular flights were also set to begin from major cities on the Chinese mainland and those in Taiwan. Two months after launching, figures showed the regular flights received more passengers than chartered ones, with nearly 80-thousand passengers each week.

During the Spring Festival of 2010, the airlines across the Strait added more temporary flights. In turn, 10-thousand tour groups from the mainland spent their holiday in Taiwan. Both the number of tourists and tourism revenue struck historically-high records.

In May, China Airline in Taiwan announced another price cut of 20 percent for flights between Taiwan and four major cities on the mainland. The discounts have spurred strong sales. Today, three major airlines in Taiwan announced more price cuts as a birthday celebration.
